He and his wife Jane have served the Melrose Community since then by raising two wonderful children and now have six wonderful grandchildren. Cape Ann landscapes still hold the most interest in his watercolors. In the mid-80's Don started oil painting with Victor MacNaught of Saugus and continued his training at the Cambridge Adult Education Center. Here he took up drawing, cartooning and other art forms. Later, he enrolled in classes at the DeCordova Museum School, taking courses in portraiture, pen and ink, pastels and other drawing skills. After taking several years off, Don returned to art by studying watercolors with Jack Jones. Since then he has worked with Paul George and Bob Cormier, studying watercolor portraits, flowers and charcoal drawings of all types. He has taken lessons in watercolors from Alvaro Castagnet and studies currently with Tom Sutherland. Don is a member of the Reading Art Association and an associate member of the Rockport Art Association. Recently he won awards for Excellence plus a Third Place Award at the Reading Art Association. He is a member of the Malden Sketch Group and is very happy to paint there every Monday night! Don holds in his esteem his friendship with Tom Sutherland with whom he has spent many hours painting.
